Pornography Addiction

Similar to someone with a chemical or substance addiction, pornography addicts tend to replace important relationships and commitments with forms of pornography. Pornography addicts tend to isolate themselves when engaging in their sexual acting out.

Pornography addiction has its roots in the viewing and hording of magazine and video pornography. Today the porn addict has a new and powerful enabler in the Internet.

Porn addicts can engage in Internet porn by viewing online still photos, downloading films or using webcams for sex. Internet porn addiction also carries a moral stigma and the likelihood that important love and sex relationships will be negatively affected.

While some sex and porn addicts use compulsive masturbation as a part of their acting out, others engage only minimally in the sex act itself but nonetheless end up losing themselves to the endless sexual images and sites found online.

Many Christians feel like there’s no way out. Those who have become addicted to pornography or other sexual sins often feel as though they have gone too far to ever find freedom. They have been in their sin for so long they can’t imagine a life of purity. Repeated failures, broken promises, and false starts have created a defeatist mentality that is difficult to break.

(Mark 7) Support groups, may play a small part in the process of finding freedom, but lasting freedom depends upon real change occuring within the heart.
